January 7 – January 28th Series:  Extraordinary

Inventors take ordinary objects and transform them into extraordinary inventions with some creativity and a lot of tinkering.  But Jesus didn’t need tools, blueprints, or a workshop to make extraordinary things happen.  On the outside, Jesus may have seemed ordinary, but his life, actions, and love regularly defied the expectations.  He transformed ordinary people and situations, showing us what an extraordinary God can do.

January 7th – The Big Idea:  Jesus is one of a kind.

Our new memory verse:

“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name.”

Philippians 2:9

The Book of Ezekiel (January 4th)

Ezekiel 1-48

Ezekiel lived around the same time as Daniel and Jeremiah.  He was a priest and a prophet.  He was raised in Jerusalem where at the age of 25 he was captured and taken to Babylon.  He prophesied about the destruction that would be coming to Jerusalem.  Ezekiel had a vision of dry bones rising up from the desert.  This signified that God would bring His people back to their homeland one day.  God did not abandon His people.  He showed Ezekiel that a small part of Israel would be saved.  Ezekiel had another vision in which he saw a new Temple and God’s glory return to the temple.  God would one day be with His people again.

Text Truth:  God is holy, and He wants us to repent of our sin and follow Him faithfully.

Memory Verse: “Even a child makes himself known by his acts, by whether his conduct is pure and upright.” Proverbs 20:11

Series:  Enjoying God My Creator!

January 4th

Big Idea:  God is the Creator of everyone and everything.

Key Verse:  “Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!” Psalm 95:6

This lesson introduced students to God, the Creator, who made them!  We used a paper robot to demonstrate that God made us to enjoy him and show how wonderful he is.  He planned all of us down to the very last detail.  Of course, the sin in our hearts make us want to live our way instead of God’s way.  That is why we need Jesus.  He can change our hearts because he is the powerful Son of God.

We learned these truths:

  • I have value!  Genesis 1:27
  • I have purpose! Ephesians 2:10
  • I have help!  Philippians 2:13
