GA'S & ra'S

When you don’t have a map to guide you, a landmark can help keep you from getting lost during your road trip.  This week, we heard how God used a shining star to help guide the Magi to Jesus, and they even brought him gifts!

The Big Idea:  God gives direction to guide us.

Our new memory verse:

“I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12b

Important Note: We will see the GAs, RAs, and Mission Friends back on January 7th!

Angels Visited Mary and Joseph (December 7th)

Luke 1:26 – 56; Matthew 1:18-25

In our first week in the study of Luke, we learn that God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth to see Mary.  Mary was understandably frightened, but the angel said, “Do not be afraid.  God is pleased with you.  you will give birth to a son, and you will name Him Jesus.  He will be great.  He will be the Son of the Most High, and the Lord will give Him the throne of David forever.”  Mary later praised God, “My soul praises the greatness of the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.  The Mighty One has done great things for me, and His name is holy.”  God chose Mary to be the mother of Jesus, and he had a plan for his earthly father too.  Joseph planned to divorce Mary secretly when he found out she was pregnant, but the angel said to Joseph, “Do not be afraid to marry Mary.  Mary will have a son.  The baby is from the Holy Spirit.  You are to name Him Jesus because He will save His people from their sins.”  Nothing could stop God’s plan from happening because God can do anything and will always accomplish His plans.

Text Truth:  God will always accomplish His redeeming plans because nothing is impossible for God.

Jesus was Born (December 14th)

Luke 2:1-20

In our second week of studying Luke, students learned that Caesar Augustus sent a decree ordering that all people be counted so that he could collect taxes.  Joseph and Mary had to travel to Bethlehem.  When they got to Bethlehem it was time for Mary to give birth, but there was no lodging room available at the inn.  They found a place to stay with the animals, and there Mary gave birth, wrapped her Son in cloth, and laid Him in a manger.  Nearby, an angel appeared to the shepherds nearby and said, “Don’t be afraid.  I have good news for you that will bring people great joy.  Today in the city of David, a Savior, Messiah the Lord, was born for you!”  The shepherds hurried to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph and the baby lying in the manger.  After seeing them, the shepherds told everyone what they had seen.  God promised long ago that a Savior would come, and God always keeps His promises.  Jesus was born in Bethlehem, and he is our Savior and Lord.

Text Truth:  As promised by God through the prophets, Jesus, our Savior and Lord, was born in Bethlehem.

Memory Verse: Luke 1:32
