GA'S & ra'S

Whether it’s a map or someone who’s made the trip before, Christmas road trips remind us of how we need someone who knows the journey ahead. This week, we heard how God gave Zechariah and Elizabeth a baby, John, who would grow up to
prepare the way for Jesus. John helped guide people towards God, showing us how God gives people to guide us.

The Big Idea:  God gives us people to guide us.

Our new memory verse:

“I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12b

This week, we packaged up boxes of gifts for Operation Christmas Child.  It is such a blessing to be able to serve in such a meaningful way.

Next week, there are no Wednesday Night Activities due to Thanksgiving.  See you on December 3rd.

David and Jonathan (November 16)

1 Samuel 18:1-5; 19:1-7; 20:1-42

In the story of David and Jonathan, King Saul was jealous of David, so he ordered his son Jonathan and his servants to kill him.   Jonathan was David’s friend, so he warned him of Saul’s plan. Even though, some people would expect Jonathan to help his father so that he could be king, he instead helped David because he knew that God had chosen David to be king.  He was not selfish and he was a faithful friend.

Text Truth:  Godly friendship seeks God’s will above personal gain.

David, King of Israel (November 23)

2 Samuel 5:1-12; 2 Samuel 7; 1 Chronicles 17

David was 30 years old when he became king of Israel.  He ruled from Hebron for 7 years.  Jerusalem had been taken by the Jebusites and they thought David could not defeat them.  However, David and his men marched to Jerusalem and defeated them.  He made Jerusalem his home and lived there for 33 years.  David became a powerful leader because God was with David.    One night, God spoke to Nathan and gave him a message for David.  He said, “I have been with Israel since they left Egypt, but I have not asked for a house.  I picked you from the pasture with the sheep to be the ruler of My people.  I have been with you.  I have defeated your enemies.  I will pick one of your descendants.  I will establish his kingdom.  He will build a house for My name.  I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.  My faithful love will never leave him.”  God promised a forever king would come from David’s family.

Text Truth:  God made a covenant promise that an eternal king would come from the family of David.

Memory Verse: “The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he saves those crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
